I’m not sure what her intentions are, I really hope they include a 2012 presidential candidacy. I think she would be so right for America, unlike our current socialist infested administration. I’ve long had the opinion that if it were Sarah Palin running for president instead of John McCain last year, we would have stood a better chance on getting a Republican elected into office.
Hopefully we’ll see more details as to her sudden decision in the coming weeks….
Next to Twitter, Flickr by far is one of my favorite web sites. I spend about an equal amount of time on both, granted I don’t have a lot of content on there, but I do enjoy looking at others photos
I’ve been meaning to start using TwitPic for some time now, but now that Flickr has this capability I’ll be using that instead.
I think Leo’s feelings were totally justified, this was completely uncalled for. To accuse someone of being biased based purely on the fact that they received a review unit is completely unfair and unprofessional.
And man oh man was it good! We can thank our Aunt Beth for this, she made it for the family when we were in Virginia Beach on Memorial day weekend and it was a hit!
EDIT: I am now with Linode.com. They offer a much better deal than what Rackspace was offering.
I was browsing through the latest issue of Linux Journal lastnight when I saw an ad for Rackspace offering new “cloud” based services. Being the geek that I am I immediately went and researched what they were offering and I’m glad I did.
Cloud computing is a relatively new term in the computing industry. The “cloud” basically refers to someone else’s resources, Rackspace’s in this case. You can basically get an on-demand server that costs pennies in comparison to a dedicated server. This was especially attractive to me being the cheapie that I am, and I’ve always dreamed of having my own dedicated server sitting in a datacenter. Thanks to virtualization technology, it makes “cloud” computing a reality.
I setup an account, Rackspace charges by the hour and for actual data transferred. I chose an instance with 512mb of RAM and 20gb of disk space. It costs .03 per hour which works out to 0.72 a day, less than a dollar for my own private server!!!! Bandwidth is also charged at 0.22 a gigabyte, but as I don’t expect much bandwidth to be used with this server it is still very much affordable for me.
Setting it up was relatively painless and I can add more servers or expand on the one I built on-demand, that is so cool! Within minutes my account was created and shortly after that I had my new server online, with root access!!!!! I’m running Debian 5.0 “Lenny” and so far it seems stable and solid as a brick.
I’m going to be moving this blog and my ham radio site to it when time permits, I’ve setup a static page for now:
I recently setup an amateur radio “RoIP” (radio over IP) node here at my house. I have access to hundreds, if not thousands of internet linked systems all across the world now with this system. It’s simply amazing.
With one caveat.
I was monitoring a major IRLP reflector last evening and I heard something that I have never heard before on Amateur Radio. Grown men acting ridiculously stupid and like children. I guess some of that is to be expected, I’m lucky to live in an area where we don’t experience that kind of abuse on our repeaters. The same can’t be said for the rest of the U.S. and abroad.
Here’s my rant with this. Last week on New Year’s eve there was a special event being held on one of the major IRLP reflectors. This particular reflector has strict policies which if observed, will not bring any attention to yourself if connected to it. One of the most disturbing policies that caused quite a bit of storm was this one:
No Cross-Links to Other Linking Methods
Cross-links to other linking programs (echolink, eQSO, etc.) or even other IRLP reflectors are prohibited. If your node is capable of cross linking to something else, please disable that capability before connecting to Ref9200. If you have a special exception request contact K9DC either on Node 4730 or via e-mail.
There was one user that got blocked based entirely on the above statement. While I respect the fact that the particular node owner can govern the use of his network any way he wants to (it’s his equipment, bandwidth, time, money, etc) what really bugs me is that I can hear the trash I heard lastnight and yet there seems to be no corrective action in place to prevent that, but let someone connect from another network and the fireworks start.
Do they have their priorities screwed up or something? I see nothing wrong with connecting from one network to another. If a user is causing problems, childishness or technical, then that is grounds for a block. I respect the high standards that IRLP claims to uphold, but it doesn’t exactly seem that way at times.
Thankfully I can choose not to participate if I hear something that bothers me
UPDATE: I ended up getting a 2nd printing, the 1st printing sold out in less than 24 hours, and now they are on a 4th printing!!!! OBAMAMANIA!!!!
So I found this little gem lastnight while I was doing my usual browsing of my favorite comic sites:
At the risk of turning this into a political rant, I’ll do my best to try and curb it. It seems as though the mass media and the general public portray President-Elect Obama as some sort of grand spectacle. I did not vote for Obama, I proudly voted for McCain/Palin and I am a true Republican at heart.
I was kind of shocked and surprised to see him on the cover of the upcoming Spider-Man, but hey it could be worth some money some day so needless to say I’ll be telling the local comic store to get me one! I guess that makes me a capitalist!!??
I’ve started reading comic books again. I think the last time I read a comic book I was around 19 years old. I’ve always enjoyed them, my most memorable was Superman’s death, that was such a big deal when that happened and schocked the community as a whole!
So far I’ve picked up the following:
World of Warcraft Graphic Novel, contains issues 1-7 (I play the game so this was a natural fit!)
World of Warcraft #8, 9, 12, and 13
World of Warcraft Ashbringer #1 and 2 of 4 (this so far has been better than the original series, go figure)
Uncanny X-Men #502 (I LOVED THE X-MEN, that is what started my comic reading revolution as a teenager)
The Punisher War Journal #25
Nightwing #150 (THIS WAS INCREDIBLE)
I really enjoyed Nightwing. I can see myself hunting down back issues on that. Nightwing is Robin from Batman and Robin.
I’m also interested in Ex Machina from Wildstorm/DC and I would like to pick up The Watchmen and Heroes (based on the hit TV show) volumes 1 and 2.
I enjoy reading and the storylines in some of these comics are very very good. The art is also incredible, I wish I only had half as much talent!
My wife is tortured with all my geekiness and she loves it!!!!!!! (I think?) haha
My 2 year old Miniature Schnauzer Sydney has torn a ligament in her leg it seems. She’s been hobbling around it on it for a few weeks now and we just got her diagnosed at the vet this evening.
I’m kinda tore up. You see, this little dog is my world and has brought me joy and satisfaction that I have not experienced other than the day I met my wife.
The vet thinks we are over-reacting a little bit, and we probably are, but as both of us came from broken homes we have a natural paternal instinct to just provide the best care we possibly can to our dogs, we don’t have children, so these are the closest thing to it.
So goes life. I guess I can follow my own advice that I often give people for once:
“Life sometimes throws you curve balls, and you have to have a mitt in order to catch it. If you don’t, it has the potential to hit you in the head”
